SLOW COACH

I created a stop-motion music video for Zac Barfoot's 'Sun Drift' for the song "Slow Coach", using cross-sections of fruit to build kaleidoscopic animations. Inspired by the symmetry of Busby Berkeley's choreography, I sliced through kiwis, potatoes (both raw and cooked), peppers, and star fruit, photographing each cross-section with a scanner. I devised a custom structure to ensure precise alignment for later compositing in the Adobe suite. The animation travels through each fruit from end to end, revealing its internal architecture frame by frame while arranged in symmetrical, kaleidoscopic patterns. This approach became a visual parallel to the act of looking deeper—both into the fruit itself and into what we see around us—while creating a connection between the nourishment of food and music. The geometric balance found in these natural forms echoed the balance we can discover in the world when we take time to look closer.
